iNudes - Pittsburgh
A Billy Monday Workshop
Most of us carry a very capable camera in our pocket. Today's cell phones contain high-resolution, high quality camera sensors and support a wide variety of onboard software for instant creative processing. Using the phone-camera is very reminiscent of the days of snapshooting with a Polaroid. The device is handy, and fun, and the instant results exciting for both the artist and subject. It's great knowing that you can make quality photos even when your "real" camera is sitting at home on the shelf. Please join me and two exceptional figure models for a serious discussion about fun photography.
"If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with." ~Stephen Stills, 1970
who:
Edith J (MM#2021532) is a model with an extraordinary sense of art and the human figure. A quick look at her portfolio will show you a model who creates graceful, intimate and expressive poses without fail. She is in every sense an artist, yet is very down-to-earth. This is a rare opportunity to work with this phenomenal art model from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Many artists in the Pittsburgh area are already familiar with Nova (MM#2592697). Nova has modeled for my workshops before, and I'm excited to have this creative, enthusiastic soul back again for my event in the 'Burgh. Nova has great makeup talents, and her love for modeling shows in her dynamic, powerful poses. Nova has a flair for the dramatic pose, and makes a perfect subject for instant photography.
what:
This workshop will be strictly limited to eight photographers. Billy Monday Workshops are always working/learning sessions, and in addition to lots of shooting time there will be formal discussion of:
- Phone-camera hardware limitations, and how to work with them.
- Lighting nudes for phone photography. Both artificial and natural light will be demonstrated and available.
- Available software for the iPhone/iPad, including Photoshop, Snapseed, Hipstamatic and more!
- Options for displaying, printing and promoting your phone's exciting fruits!
Joining us will be experienced and talented iPhoneographer Sita Mae. Sita Mae has an incredible portfolio of work made with her handheld "Precious," and has a lot of tips and tricks to share. Her enthusiasm for iPhoneography is catching!
Although Sita Mae and I prefer the iOS platforms, the general discussion applies to any small, portable and convenient camera, including most Android devices. Bring whatever you have - but please leave that clunky DSLR at home.
where:
The workshop will be held in a beautiful restored rectory in south Pittsburgh, now in use as an art space and gallery. There is plenty of room for multiple sets, and lots of gorgeous hardwood and textures to bring out some exceptional nudes.
when:
Saturday, May 20, 2012. Noon 'till approximately 6pm.
why:
While glamor photography workshops abound, there are few group opportunities to work with figure models, and even fewer which take a serious approach to learning. Our event will focus on developing both skills and relationships which will last a lifetime. Emphasizing a fine art approach to nude photography, I hope to encourage both exceptional image making and also networking to build an extended community of artists and models in the region.
how much:
$199 includes all studio fees, model's fees and a signed release (excluding use on websites requiring Federal record-keeping). This price will substantially increase for my next workshop in Pennsylvania.
If you have any comments or questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I hope to see you there!
